ASIIN Indonesia Conference 2024 - Shaping Tomorrow's Minds: Advancing Higher Education Excellence in Indonesia and Germany

From September 30 to October 1, 2024, the ASIIN Indonesia Conference 2024 took place at the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur in Bali, Indonesia. The conference was attended by around 100 representatives from universities across Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, including leading academics and decision-makers.

In addition to the speakers listed above, participants included Prof. I Putu Gede Adiatmika, Vice Chancellor for Planning, Cooperation and Information of the co-hosting Balinese Udayana University. Experts such as Prof. Deni Noviana, Vice Chancellor for Education of the Bogor Institute of Agriculture, as well as representatives of the German Embassy and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) were also represented with exciting speeches as well as the responsible person of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce Abroad Mr. Stefan Blocks, who spoke about the local activities to attract Indonesian professionals for the German labor market. Dr. Rini Rachmawaty, Secretary at the “Institute of Quality Assurance and Educational Development” at Universitas Hasanuddin, gave a particularly vivid presentation, painting an impressive picture of the many positive change processes at her university as a result of ASIIN accreditation.

The topics covered during the conference included innovative approaches to university teaching and learning, as well as the influence of artificial intelligence on higher education. Successful examples of international cooperation between Indonesia and Germany in the field of higher education and the exchange of specialists were presented. In addition, best practice examples for the implementation of double degree and joint programs between universities in both countries were presented.

A key concern of the participants was the need for increased cooperation with the Indonesian Ministry to ensure that ASIIN can continue to work with a wide range of disciplines despite the restrictions on international accreditation agencies that will come into effect next year. In total, ASIIN has now accredited over 400 degree programs at almost all Indonesian universities, making it one of the leading accreditation agencies in the country. Following the conference, Indonesian university representatives had the opportunity to talk to ASIIN office staff about the implementation of future procedures.
