ASIIN Academy: Successful Training with L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University

How can the learning outcomes, teaching methods and assessments of a degree programme be effectively aligned? How can Bloom's Taxonomy, the groundbreaking classification system for learning objectives, be embedded in teaching? And what role does the PDCA cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Act) play in the further development of degree programmes?

These questions were at the heart of the training workshop "Strategic Development and Quality Management of Engineering Degree Programmes," which ASIIN Consult GmbH designed and delivered for L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Kazakhstan. The renowned university in Astana was founded 30 years ago and has its roots in engineering. The design and further development of its engineering programmes were therefore also the reason for requesting this training.

The programme began in early September with an online training session. It covered the theoretical foundations of quality management and quality assurance, laying the groundwork for a critical reflection on the university's existing and planned programmes.

The second part of the training took place a few days later in Germany and focused entirely on university visits and best-practice examples. At Technische Hochschule Georg Agricola (THGA) in Bochum and Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (Kamp-Lintfort), the Kazakh delegation gained first-hand insight into quality management and quality assurance, as well as programme design and teaching concepts in engineering. Bridging theory and practice also included tours of innovative, resource-efficient and interdisciplinary learning, teaching and working environments, which clearly impressed the Kazakh guests. The visits not only provided valuable inspiration but also led to discussions about deepening the ties between the German universities and the Kazakh university beyond the training.

Thomas Lichtenberg, Project Manager at ASIIN Consult and organiser of the training, draws a positive conclusion: "We tailor our training individually to the wishes and needs of our university partners. We determine the duration, format and content together. I am delighted that we were able to support L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University on its journey. Special thanks also go to our two hosts, THGA and Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. They impressively demonstrated how teaching content can be designed and delivered in innovative ways."
