VDI The Association of Engineers

With 150,000 personal members – a fifth of which are students and junior engineers under the age of 33 – VDI The Association of German Engineers is one of the largest technical-scientific associations in Europe. Throughout the years, VDI has successfully expanded its activities nationally and internationally committing itself to foster and impart knowledge about technology related issues. As a financially independent, politically unaffiliated non-profit organization VDI is recognized as the representative of engineers both within the profession and in public. VDI covers a wide range of technical topics and communicates this knowledge through studies, technical discussions and congresses or VDI guidelines, generally accepted technical rules. As an advisory partner VDI engages in the relationship between technical and social developments. It focuses on the promotion of young talents and the support of upcoming engineers. VDI comprises 45 Regional Chapters and 15 representatives in the federal states that organize seminars and social events. The participants benefit from technical know-how and valuable expert exchanges. To interact internationally, VDI plays an active role in FEANI, the Federation of European National Engineering Associations.

VDI has played an important role in founding ASIIN and gave the association support in the start-up period both financially and logistically. Right from the start, VDI has supported the implementation of Bachelor and Master study programs and their accreditation and will continue its support in that field.
