Certification of Institutions
Institutional certification is a service offered by ASIIN Consult GmbH.
Why institutional certification?
Institutional certification offers continuing education providers—whether higher-education-based or non-higher-education—the opportunity to put their internal quality management system to the test and to have it validated against recognised standards. A certified institution demonstrates that it continuously reviews and enhances its educational provision and develops it in line with international quality standards.
With certification by ASIIN, institutions receive:
- A recognised certificate serving as proof of quality for their educational offerings (levels 5 to 8 of the European Qualifications Framework, EQF).
- Stronger confidence among students/learners, companies, and partner organisations.
- The option to certify themselves and their educational offerings (self-certification status).
- Strategic development through external evaluation and expert feedback.
Quality standards – transparency and commitment
Certification is based on clearly defined quality standards aligned with the “Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area” (ESG). They include:
- Strategic orientation and quality management: development, implementation, and continuous improvement of educational offerings.
- Teaching and learning: didactic approaches, assessment procedures, and recognition of competences.
- Resource management: staffing, material resources, and infrastructural framework conditions.
- Transparency and documentation: clear, traceable processes and publication of relevant information.

The certification process – step by step
- Application: submission of the application form and basic information about the institution and its quality management system.
- Contract conclusion: entering into a contract for the certification procedure.
- Self-evaluation: preparation of a report presenting the existing quality assurance mechanisms.
- Sample-based review: selection and assessment of educational offerings to evaluate internal processes.
- On-site visit: interviews with relevant stakeholders, review of documentation, and assessment by a panel of experts.
- Certification decision: preparation of an expert report and decision by the Certification Commission.
- Award of certificate: if certification is successful, the ASIIN certificate is awarded.
The Certificate – Added Value through Self-Certification
A particular advantage of institutional certification is self-certification status. This means that certified institutions are not only authorised to use the seal, but can also apply it to their own educational offerings—without having to undergo a separate external certification process for each individual programme.
Requirements for self-certification status:
- Evidence of a fully functioning internal quality management system.
- Regular evaluation and further development of the educational offerings.
- Compliance with the ASIIN quality assurance standards.
Renewal and Monitoring
Certification is valid for six years (eight years in the case of re-certification). External monitoring ensures that the quality standards are continuously met. Every three to four years, a review is conducted through a sample-based assessment.
