Prof. Dr. Oliver Günther

Prof. Dr. Oliver Günther has been President of the University of Potsdam since 2012 and also Vice President for Governance, Teaching and Studies of the German Rectors' Conference since December 2020. Previously Professor of Business Informatics at Humboldt University of Berlin, from 2005 to 2011 also Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the same university.

Günther studied industrial engineering and mathematics in Karlsruhe and graduated as an industrial engineer in 1984. He then studied computer science at the University of California at Berkeley, earning a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1987. Teaching and research activities at the University of California and FAW Ulm, guest professorships in Paris and Cape Town, among others.

As a business information scientist, Günther deals with IT strategy, IT efficiency as well as data protection and security. Here he was also active as a company founder and strategy consultant.
