About us
University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) is a key application-oriented university, focusing on engineering and developing coordinately with multiple disciplines including science, economics, management, literature, law and art.
Its educational context can be traced back to Shanghai College founded in 1906 and Deutsche Medizinische und Technische Hochschule founded in 1907. In 1996, East China University of Technology and Shanghai Junior College of Machinery merged to form USST in 1998.
The university has 17 colleges (departments), with over 30,000 full-time students, including more than 18,000 undergraduates and 12,000 postgraduates. It has over 2,700 faculty and staff, including 7 academicians (including double-employed), 111 national-level talents and 488 provincial and ministerial-level talents.
USST has 64 undergraduate majors, 9 first-level doctoral programs, 2 professional doctoral programs, 29 first-level master's programs and 8 postdoctoral research stations. It boasts 29 national and 53 provincial-ministerial teaching platforms, as well as 7 national and 48 provincial-ministerial scientific research platforms. Eleven disciplines, including Engineering, Materials Science and Chemistry, are ranked in the top 1% of ESI globally, with Engineering entering the top 1‰ of ESI globally.
