About us

Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) is the first national university in Oman and is located in the governorate of Muscat. The first intake of students was in 1986, and it started with five colleges and later expanded to nine colleges and a center for preparatory studies. SQU highlights research, scientific publishing, libraries, and community engagement as core parts of its mission. The university strategic plan is closely aligned with Oman Vision 2040 to achieve national priorities in higher education, research, and innovation.

SQU demonstrates strength across Plant Sciences; Plant Production and Protection; Animal Sciences; Marine Sciences; Food and Nutrition; Natural Resource Economics; Soil Sciences; Water Technology; Agricultural Engineering; the fundamental and applied natural sciences, including Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Statistics; Engineering; Nursing; and Medicine, underpinned by robust institution-wide practices in quality assurance, accreditation, self-evaluation, and data-driven strategic planning.

We expect the AGUNE network to provide a strong platform for international collaboration among quality-oriented universities, with practical opportunities for sharing best practices, developing joint initiatives, and strengthening academic visibility. In particular, we would value meaningful exchange on quality assurance, internationalization, student mobility, and partnership-building that can lead to tangible benefits for institutions, staff, and students.

AGUNE members are welcome to contact SQU for collaboration in quality assurance and accreditation, research, student and staff exchange, and academic program development. As Oman’s national university, SQU offers broad academic capacity across agriculture and marine sciences, food and nutrition, natural resource economics, fundamental and applied natural sciences (including biology, biotechnology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and statistics), engineering and medicine. The University also provides strong institution-wide practices in quality assurance, continuing education, and data-driven strategic planning to support sustainable academic partnerships and knowledge exchange.
